![]() ![]() James Howard Kunstler is the creator and author of the World Made by Hand series. ![]() He has also written the 2005 book The Long Emergency, a nonfiction work where Kunstler posits that the declining production of oil could lead to a death of the industrialized version of society as we know it and end up leading to American citizens to reside in local communities that are agrarian in nature. ![]() He is also featured in The End of Suburbia, a documentary on peak oil that has been viewed many times online. He is known for writing a history on urban development and suburbia in America with the book The Geography of Nowhere. He would leave the position so that he could go write full time in 1975. He also was on staff as a writer for Rolling Stone Magazine. ![]() James attended the State University of New York and studied at Brockport Campus, graduating with his degree and finding work as a reporter and writing features for different newspapers. He would leave to go back to the city three years later with his family, and much of the author’s childhood was spent there.
